Graduate Programs
Master’s in Business Administration (MBA)
Other offerings relevant to residents of Loudoun County are Mason’s outstanding MBA and Executive MBA programs in the conveniently located Center for Innovative Technology building on the Fairfax–Loudoun border. The MBA cohort meets Tuesday and Thursday evenings as part of a complete MBA program, while the Executive MBA cohort meets Fridays and Saturdays during the fall.
College of Education and Human Development
The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) offers a master’s program and doctoral study for teachers, administrators, and other school professionals. Many of the master’s programs of study are designed around cohorts of students who are engaged in similar work and tailored to local contexts.
College of Nursing and Health Science
Graduate Degree in Nursing
Nurses who have completed 63 general education credits and demonstrated substantial involvement in professional nursing within the two previous years are eligible to apply for the accelerated RN-to-MSN Degree Program. General education prerequisites are available at NVCC or Mason at Loudoun. The entry bridge course and the five core courses in this program of study are taught at the Mason at Loudoun educational facility. After completing these courses, students are eligible to select one of three nursing tracks offered on the Fairfax Campus to complete the MSN degree.
Telecommunications (MS)
The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the School of IT&E will offer credit-bearing graduate courses at Loudoun that may be applied to the Master of Science in Telecommunications degree. The course sequence will begin with Modern Telecommunications, TCOM 500, in Fall 2005 and continue with Data Communications & Local Area Networks, and Wide Area Networks and Internet, TCOM 501/502, in Spring 2005. (Subsequent courses offered at Loudoun will allow students to complete a portion of the work towards the Master degree). In subsequent semesters, students may need to come to Mason’s Fairfax Campus to complete certain specialized courses and laboratories. Students will acquire broad knowledge and skills in networking, wireless communications, and satellite communications. Professionals with such skills are in demand by the employers in the region.
Undergraduate Programs
Business and Management
The School of Management offers courses at Mason at Loudoun that lead toward the popular business minor. A 15-credit program, the minor draws on the school’s core courses to provide exposure to contemporary business concepts and practice and the skills needed for success in the rapidly evolving world of business. Students in many of Mason’s programs take the business minor.
College of Education and Human Development
The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) also offers courses and certificates for teachers, administrators, and other school professionals. The college also offers courses for individuals who are seeking to further their education through more traditional course enrollment and degree fulfillment. In the coming year, the CEHD will offer courses in Loudoun in instructional technology, special education, and education leadership. Cohort-based courses in education leadership will also be available starting in the fall of 2005.
Undergraduate Degree in Health Science
The BS in health science prepares students for jobs as managers and clinicians in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, clinics, long-term care facilities, and medical technology and supply organizations. An accelerated pathway for graduates of allied health technical programs accommodates the needs of the adult learner. The pathway in health systems management will be offered at Mason at Loudoun. Following completion of the general education requirements, students are admitted to the major.
Information Technology
The School of Information Technology and Engineering offers credit-bearing courses at Mason at Loudoun that may be applied to the information technology (IT) major, which prepares graduates to apply IT skills to support business processes. A new management concentration in the IT major is available at Mason at Loudoun.
The IT minor allows students in other majors to certify that they are literate in information technology. At Mason at Loudoun, courses are offered that allow students to complete most of the work for the minor in relation to their major course of study at Mason’s Fairfax and Prince William Campuses. These courses also build toward the BS in information technology that is completed at the university’s Fairfax and Prince William Campuses.
In addition, a 24-credit certificate program, designed primarily for students completing non-technical bachelor’s degrees, is an option for students at Mason at Loudoun.
Social Work
The Introduction to Social Work course is offered at Mason at Loudoun, giving students an opportunity to consider or launch programs of study in social work. The course introduces students to the profession, its values, its fields of practice, and a range of job opportunities and conditions. The course is required for social work majors, who then continue their study at the Fairfax Campus.
